What is the Dead Sea?

In fact, the Dead Sea was actually recently nominated to be the 8th Wonder of the World! But what is it exactly?

Located on the on the Israeli-Jordanian border, the Dead Sea is in fact a saltwater lake that formed from the spreading of tectonic plates many years ago. It is the lowest point on earth, roughly 1,300 feet below sea level and also up to 1,400 feet deep, making it also the world’s deepest landlocked water body!

This unique creation is fed by the Jordan River with no outflow. High temperatures and low humidity leads to an exceptionally high rate of evaporation and the result is the world’s richest source of natural salts and minerals. This is also what gives the water its well-known buoyancy, as well as being the reason why no organisms can survive underneath its surface. (The Dead Sea has more than eight times the amount of salt present in the world’s oceans!)

In addition to the chemical composition of its water, the unique combination of oxygen-rich air, UVA sunlight, mineral-rich black mud along the shoreline, as well as the adjacent thermal mineral springs and fresh water all combine to make the Dead Sea truly the modern day fountain of youth.

Can’t make it to Israel right now? Not to worry.Today, you can choose from a wide assortment of authentic Dead Sea skin care products from the comfort of your own home, so you too can experience the natural healing powers of the amazing Dead Sea.
